Network Marketing: The Internetwork Marketing Way

I was skimming the book The 7 Step System to Building a $1,000,000 Network Marketing Dynasty by Dr Joe Rubino and got to the chapter on prospecting. One section of that chapter deals with creating a notification names lists to start notifying about your new business.

Although this book was written about two years ago, the way that network marketing recruiting has changed over that time requires us to change the way we do our business. I remember making a list of classmates that I wanted to share my opportunities with. I finally sent out the email that was very detailed and waiting for at least a few people to want to know more about my opportunity. I remember getting one email back asking how it was going and informing me that they would think about it after I made some money.

Never again did I want to be in such a position again---chasing people to show them an opportunity. I waned to be the one that was being chased because they were dying to know what I was doing. I rather provide information to groups of people instead of talking individually. Youre probably thinking about how I can develop a relationship going that route. Well, the relationship is developed with the free information youre providing that will get people thinking about their future and about taking control of their lives.

After receiving the invaluable information that gets them thinking, and then youll have those same people approach you wanting to know about your business. And then, only then, will be recruiting on autopilot.

So, how do go about putting all this on autopilot? Well, there has to be a system in place that you must work. Work the system and the system will bring in prospects that will get the information you want to provide. You dont need to even talk to them until theyre ready and interested in what you have to offer.

The system leverages the internet, allowing you to reach a lot more prospects a lot quicker than making a list and checking it twice. The way network marketing is done has changed and you must change what you do in order to leverage what you have and have a bigger payoff.

Build your network marketing business using the internet. Leverage what's already in place to propel you to success without the struggle that most network marketers experience. Work the system and the system will work for you.

What is Cyberstalking?

Protection from Cyberstalking

Computers and the Internet are becoming indispensable parts of America's culture, and cyberstalking is a growing threat.

What is Cyberstalking? Cyberstalking can be defined as threatening behavior or unwanted advances directed at another using the Internet and other forms of online and computer communications. Cyberstalking occurs when electronic mediums such as the Internet are used to pursue, harass or contact another in an unsolicited fashion. Internet CyberStalking is used to slander and endanger victims, taking on a public rather than private dimension.

Cyberstalking is the term used to describe stalking behavior undertaken by way of computer. Although no universal definition exists, cyberstalking occurs when an individual or group uses the Internet to stalk or harass another. Essentially cyberstalking is the act of stalking using the Internet, e-mail, or other electronic communication devices. Everyone who receives e-mail or uses the Internet is susceptible to cyberstalking.

In order to address cyberstalking, it is critical to understand stalking in general. The fact that cyberstalking does not involve physical contact may create the misperception that it is less threatening or dangerous than physical stalking. In many cases, cyberstalking is simply another phase in an overall stalking pattern, or it is regular stalking behavior using new technological tools. Essentially, cyberstalking is an extension of the physical form of stalking.

The anonymity of online interaction reduces the chance of identification and makes cyberstalking more common than physical stalking. The ease of use and non-confrontational, impersonal, and sometimes anonymous nature of Internet communications may remove disincentives to cyberstalking. Although cyberstalking might seem relatively harmless, it can cause victims psychological and emotional harm, and occasionally leads to actual stalking. More disturbingly, pornographers and pedophiles have begun to use cyberstalking as a way of locating new victims.

It is commonly assumed that cyberstalking is not as serious or harmful as real world stalking. It is true that cyberstalking bears little physical resemblance to traditional stalking methods such as following and loitering.

Cyberstalking is a relatively new phenomenon. The stream of data is sketchy, but some insights into cyberstalking trends are emerging. As with regular stalking, cyberstalking often begins when you attempt to break off a relationship. Anecdotal evidence from law enforcement agencies indicates that cyberstalking is a serious, and growing problem.

While cyberstalking has become a worldwide problem, most cases originate in the United States, making Americans the most vulnerable group of targets. It is estimated that there may potentially be tens or even hundreds of thousands of cyberstalking victims in the United States. A common area regarding cyberstalking is at the "edu" sites, which are educational institutes, such as colleges and universities. While, historically, cyberstalking has mostly been men stalking women, the reverse is happening more often as well.

In many instances, cyberstalking is simply another phase in an overall stalking pattern, or it is regular stalking behavior using new, high-technology tools. Keep a record of contact made (in relation to the cyberstalking event) with website administrators, victim support organizations and law enforcement personnel. Often, cyberstalking ventures offline and the cyberstalker may attempt to track down the victim physically. These things are important because online cyberstalking and bullying is increasing, and further, is grossly underreported.

By the use of new technology and equipment which cannot be policed by traditional methods, cyberstalking has replaced traditional methods of stalking and harassment. The investigation of cyberstalking and other computer crimes can be complex. The lack of adequate statutory authority also can limit law enforcement's response to cyberstalking incidents. Out-of-date and missing account, subscriber, and user information, as well as anonymizing tools, presented problems for law enforcement during cyberstalking investigations.

Having Trouble With Advertising

Here is the problem: You have created a website, bought an auto responder, wrote a powerful sales letter, set up your payment processor, and created a "thank you" page...Now you just gotta get targeted traffic to your site. And you come to find out...advertising is the hardest part of making money online!

I went through the exact same thing as described above. My website was professionally done with graphics, an auto responder ready to capture names and email addresses, a compelling sales letter, a payment processor, and a "thank you" page. I was ready to tell my boss goodbye for good! There was just one last thing I had to do. And that was get targeted traffic to my site. With the creation and automation of my site complete, I thought all the hard work was behind me. Sadly, it was only the beginning.

It was now time for the promotion process, which involved me getting my website "out there" for people to see. I set up a google adwords account, wrote articles such as these to article directories, posted in forums, etc...hoping to get some sales. After doing all this, I was sure my financial problems were over. I even gave my job a two weeks notice that I'd be leaving soon.

However, when I returned to my computer a few days later I was disappointed to find out that I made no sales at all. Not a single one. There must have been something I did wrong, a step I missed upon completing my website and advertising it.

Well, it turns out that I did not miss a step. The reason why I did not get any buyers was because I was lacking one thing, and that one thing was: CONSISTENCY.

That is it, I may have created and automated my business, but I stopped there. I did not continue to promote my product deeper. I just stopped when I was comfortable. Listen: the only way you are going to make a LIVING on the internet is if you work your socks off, at first. After a while, it gets easier and you do not have to work so much. However, in the beginning, you must put in 8-12 hours days of work on your computer.

Take it from me, I took a break and left for a few days. BIG MISTAKE. It probably cost me hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars.

So be consistent. Once your site is up, you must stop at nothing to promote, promote, promote. Time is money. Do not let a single hour pass without you doing something to promote your product. I know it's a pain at first, but it will pay off in the long run.

Are Online Ads Worth Your Buck?

Whenever you are surfing the internet looking for information you will see a plethora of online advertising offering virtually every conceivable product or service under the sun. As more people hit the information highway, often shunning traditional information sources such as print, television and radio, advertisers are also making the switch. Online advertising can a cost-effective method of reaching web surfers and getting their message in front of a different audience.

One of the biggest advantages of online ads is also one of the biggest disadvantages. Online ads can reach a wider audience and if you have a global internet business can expand the boundaries of your customer base. In most cases you have the ability to determine the types of sites on which your online ads will appear, but in many instances once you place the ad, especially if going through an online ad agency, your site could end up on sites that are inconsistent with you beliefs.

If your business is strictly locally based, with print, television or radio advertising you can restrict the geographic locations where the ads will be heard or seen. For many local-only businesses this type of target advertising reaches only those are likely to be interested in your business and be reasonably expected to visit in person. It all depends on whether you want your advertising effort to have a shotgun effect or a rifle shot.

While a shotgun approach can reach more people in the least amount of time in a much wider area, it will also have many of the ads whiz out into cyberspace with no contact with potential customers. With the rifle approach you can aim your advertising at a specific customer base and even with a potentially higher cost can often realize a better return on the advertising dollar.

When considering online advertising you have to look at the potential return to determine if they are worth your investment. With internet advertising, as will many other forms, it is a numbers game. If you anticipate that 10 percent of those who see the ad will respond and ten percent of those respondents will result in a sale, you should consider that 10,000 advertisement in print media would see 1,000 respondents resulting in 100 sales.

With online ads, your advertisement may reach a million viewers, resulting in 100,000 respondents and 10,000 sales. Weighing these purely hypothetical numbers would seem to make online advertising a good investment. However, depending on the placement of online ads, such as on sites that customers for your products or service rarely if ever visit, the number of respondents may be considerably lower, reducing the potential return on your online ad investment.

If you have an online business, it may pay to advertise where your customers are looking. If your business is completely offline, advertising online may simply make the business with which you advertise the recipient of any income.

Introduction to UDRP Disputes

The Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy is the grandfather of domain name dispute policies, having been approved by ICANN back in October 1999. It governs arbitration proceedings involving the most important gTLDs, including disputes about .com, .net, .org, .biz and .info domains. In addition, some ccTLDs registries have voluntarily adopted the UDRP.

The UDRP was promulgated by ICANN; however, ICANN is not responsible for providing dispute resolution facilities. There are presently four providers accredited fro gTLD disputes: WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center, the National Arbitration Forum, the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution, and the Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Center. WIPO and NAF handle the vast majority of the cases.

WIPO was the first UDRP accredited provider, and began providing a domain name arbitration service in 1999. Since then has processed more than 22,000 cases. NAF is based in the US, and many of the complainants who use its services are based in North America. It deals with only slightly fewer cases than WIPO.

Procedural rules

Most of the key procedural rules are set out in the UDRP and the Rules for UDRP published by ICANN. Additional detail can be found in the supplemental rules issued by the dispute resolution service providers.

The procedural rules are straightforward. The complainant files a complaint in the requisite form and pays the up-front fees. The fees vary with the choice of provider, number of domain names at issue and the number of panellists chosen, and range between $1300 and $5000+. After the complaint is filed and the fee paid, a block is put on the domain name preventing transfer for the duration of the proceedings.

The respondent's case is set out in its response, which must be filed within 20 days of the date of receipt of the complaint. If no response is received (a common circumstance) the expert is empowered to consider this as a ground to accept the complainant's arguments. In most cases there will be no opportunity for the complainant to reply to the response.

It usually takes less than 2 months between the filing of a UDRP complaint and the issue of a decision. The remedies available are revocation and transfer or the domain name(s) at issue; the remedy will be implemented by the domain registrar. There is no appeal from a panel decision (unlike, for instance, at Nominet); however, the parties to UDRP proceedings are free to bring legal proceedings at any time.

Substantive rules

Paragraph 4(a) contains the basic rules concerning disputes under the UDRP: "You are required to submit to a mandatory administrative proceeding in the event that a third party (a "complainant") asserts to the applicable Provider, in compliance with the Rules of Procedure, that (i) your domain name is identical or confusingly similar to a trademark or service mark in which the complainant has rights; and (ii) you have no rights or legitimate interests in respect of the domain name; and (iii) your domain name has been registered and is being used in bad faith. In the administrative proceeding, the complainant must prove that each of these three elements are present."

In other words, there are three hurdles for a complainant under the UDRP: he must show that he has rights in a relevant mark, that the respondent has no rights/legitimate interests in the domain, and that the domain was acquired/registered in bad faith.

Rights of complainant

The easiest way to demonstrates rights in a trade mark is through a trade mark registration or, better, a portfolio of registrations. However, UDRP panels can usually be persuaded that a complainant has rights where the complainant can show a reasonable amount of actual use of the mark. The more distinctive the unregistered mark, the easier it will be to prove rights in this way.

The test for confusing similarity involves a comparison between the trade mark and the domain name to determine the likelihood of confusion. The content of the website is irrelevant for this particular purpose.

Rights and legitimate interests of respondent

Paragraph 4(c) of the UDRP concerns rights and legitimate interests: "Any of the following circumstances, in particular but without limitation, if found by the Panel to be proved based on its evaluation of all evidence presented, shall demonstrate your rights or legitimate interests to the domain name for purposes of Paragraph 4(a)(ii): (i) before any notice to you of the dispute, your use of, or demonstrable preparations to use, the domain name or a name corresponding to the domain name in connection with a bona fide offering of goods or services; or (ii) you (as an individual, business, or other organization) have been commonly known by the domain name, even if you have acquired no trademark or service mark rights; or (iii) you are making a legitimate noncommercial or fair use of the domain name, without intent for commercial gain to misleadingly divert consumers or to tarnish the trademark or service mark at issue."

Panellists have not strictly applied the requirement that a complainant prove that the respondent has no rights or legitimate interests in the domain name. As the WIPO guidance says: "while the overall burden of proof rests with the complainant, panels have recognized that this could result in the often impossible task of proving a negative, requiring information that is often primarily within the knowledge of the respondent. Therefore a complainant is required to make out an initial prima facie case that the respondent lacks rights or legitimate interests."

Bad faith

Paragraph 4(c) of the UDRP concerns bad faith: "For the purposes of Paragraph 4(a)(iii), the following circumstances, in particular but without limitation, if found by the Panel to be present, shall be evidence of the registration and use of a domain name in bad faith: (i) circumstances indicating that you have registered or you have acquired the domain name primarily for the purpose of selling, renting, or otherwise transferring the domain name registration to the complainant who is the owner of the trademark or service mark or to a competitor of that complainant, for valuable consideration in excess of your documented out-of-pocket costs directly related to the domain name; or (ii) you have registered the domain name in order to prevent the owner of the trademark or service mark from reflecting the mark in a corresponding domain name, provided that you have engaged in a pattern of such conduct; or (iii) you have registered the domain name primarily for the purpose of disru!
pting the business of a competitor; or (iv) by using the domain name, you have intentionally attempted to attract, for commercial gain, Internet users to your web site or other on-line location, by creating a likelihood of confusion with the complainant's mark as to the source, sponsorship, affiliation, or endorsement of your web site or location or of a product or service on your web site or location."

If a domain name is registered before the date of the establishment of the complainant's trade mark rights, that fact will usually defeat the complaint on the basis that the registration could not have been in bad faith. There are however limited exceptions to this rule. For example, if a third party registration of a domain name consisting of elements of two different companies' names is prompted by rumours of a corporate merger, that may be enough to constitute bad faith, notwithstanding that there may be no registered or unregistered rights in the new name.

Some panels have found that the passive holding of a domain may be enough to justify a finding of bad faith. In particular, where a trade mark is very famous panels have found it difficult to conclude that the registration could possibly have been in good faith, no matter what the domain name has been used (or not used) for.

Conclusions

In terms of usage, the UDRP must be one of the most successful forms of ADR in legal history. The manifold advantages of the procedure over court litigation - in terms of cost, time and ease of enforcement - mean that it (or its successor policy) will remain a key feature of the domain name system for so long as that system is open to abuse.

The system has not however escaped criticism. The most common complaint is that the substantive rules, the methods of selection of dispute resolution providers and/or the methods of selection of panellists constitute a regime which is systematically biased in favour of trade mark owners and against domain registrants.

The school is committed to developing student competence and confidence in academic, social, and independent living skills.

Many people believe that even the rich lack security of who they are and what they have accomplished. To be taken seriously in our society these days it is not enough to have money. To be a major player in society you must navigate the art world. This is where Mirek Klabal comes into play. Mirek Klabal is the dealer to the stars. Mirek Klabal sells art to wealthy families, famous celebrities, governments and anybody with an eye and wallet for art. But as Mirek Klabal says dont forget your checkbook, as good art is not cheap. Spending $10 million dollars for a painting from Mirek Klabal is not uncommon. Mirek Klabal says when the newly rich buy art they value art as a passionless commodity to conquer and control. Mirek Klabal says this is one of the main reasons for the rapid increase in the price of art in the last few years. There has been a recent rise in the price of art because the global economy has been doing well. Mirek Klabal says between, the Russian oligarchs, Indian entrepreneurs, Chinese businessman, and hedge fund billionaires.

Over the past thirty years Mirek Klabal has been in the art business. Mirek Klabal is credited with being a pioneer in the art world. Mirek Klabal operated art partnerships for purposes of investing in art before it was in vogue. Mirek Klabal has traveled the world in pursuit of art business opportunities and for the love of art. Mirek Klabal co-developed many art shows in the last 20 years. The art shows that Mirek Klabal has produced are from world famous artists such: Challgal, Picasso, Monet and Warhol. Mirek Klabal aggressively pursues the challenges associated with making art available to kids in the inner cities.

I will leave with this note, Mirek Klabal, is a passionate, articulate, caring and giving man who treats every day as a gift. Did I forget to mention he is an art dealer extraordinaire?

6 Tips For Saving Gas

In the past months we have seen the price of gasoline soar higher than ever before, and this can be hard on people who have a budget that is tight. Even though gas prices have come down a slight bit, you still will want to do everything you possibly can to save on the money you have to pay out for gas. There are a variety of ways that you can save gas, and save money.

Tip#1 - Start Carpooling

Carpooling is a great idea for fellow students and fellow employees both. If you can find people that are going to the same place you are you can save gas by riding together. It may be a good idea to trade off on who is driving from week to week so no one person gets stuck having to drive all the time. If you have to take your children to school or other functions you can also work on trading off with your friends and neighbors to take them there.

Tip#2 - Public Transportation

If it is possible you can take public transportation to work instead of driving your car. Not only will this save you money on gas, but you will also be able to relax and not worry about having to drive through all that rush hour traffic. You may even be able to fit in a quick nap on your way to work or on your way home.

Tip#3 - Price Shop

Often it may be so convenient to buy your gas at the small gas station just up the road, but to save some money on gas you may want to check the prices at other gas stations that are nearby as well. Even if the difference is only a few cents, after putting hundreds of gallons of gas in you vehicle each year, those few cents are going to add up to quite a sum of money.

Tip#4 - Get Moving

You can save some money on gas if you start walking to where you are going, or you can ride a bike as well. You will not have to worry about paying to park your car, and the exercise will be great for you body. If you are walking or biking you will not have to worry about those huge traffic jams either.

Tip#5 - Take Care of Your Car

It is always important to take care of your car so it gets the best gas mileage possible. Also be sure to plan where you are going before you go so you will not have to backtrack and waste gas. If you can, you should use your air conditioning as little as possible because using it takes more gas. Roll down your windows and you will use less gas.

Tip#6 - Check your Tires

It is important that you check the air pressure in your tires as often as possible. If your tires are too low, or the pressure in them is unequal it can make your car burn more gas. You should also be careful how you drive. If you take off from every red light very fast you are going to burn more fuel, so it is best to take off a little slower.

These are a few tips that can help the money conscious person to save money on gas. Even as gas prices drop, these tips can still help you to save more money. Conservation is important, so take advantage of these tips, save money, and save gas.

Stay at Home Moms and Dads; Let's Make Money from Home!

I am always advised by some of my friends and relatives that I'd better to find a job and spend some time out of home. I really don't know why they advise me to do that while they are not happy with their jobs, getting up early morning everyday, taking the kids to daycare or leaving them with the babysitter and ... . The worst part of their life is the money they make with their full time jobs. The luckiest one can have 10 bucks per hour after paying tax. They also have to pay for gas and other expenses that their cars have every month.

So what advantages does working out of home have for them? Why do they encourage me to do something that they are not happy with it? The advice I always give them is much better. I advise them to stay at home and let their kids grow under their nose. They don't know how pleasant it is when you see your baby takes his first step or says his first word. Most of them are used to hear these news from their babysitters.

You may be a mom or dad with the same issues and problems with your full time job. I don't want to ask you to quit your full time job right away, stay at home and think about working from home. I always try to teach people on my weblog and articles to be broad-minded and not to make any limitation for themselves. They can use their extra time they will have when their kids are slept or at the weekend to find some extra streams of income. Even if you don't need to make any more money and you are happy with your current income but sooner or later you will need some more money. Your children will grow up and there will be many new things that you will have to provide for them. So it does worth if you spend some of the time you are used to spend to take nap or watching TV on finding good ways to create some new streams of income.

But how to get started?

1- First of all please keep in your mind that I do not want to tell you that you will become rich by working from home in a few weeks or even months. In fact you have to avoid all the get rich quick programs. I emphasized on this because I know as soon as people decide to try a working at home business, they turn on their computers, look for a easy work at home job that fits stay at home mothers or dads. It is the time that they can be cheated by scammers. So this is the first thing that you have to take into consideration if you want to work at home and make some extra money.

2- You need to get organized for spending some time on this business every week. This is like other businesses. Only serious and organized people can succeed. If you are a person who starts several businesses and becomes interested in different things but gives up at the first steps or if you become interested in different things just because one of your friends or relatives calls you and talk about it for a few minutes and then you lose your interest even before trying, just because one of your other friends calls you and says she doesn't like it because of this and that, then you have to change yourself before you start a work at home business and become a stay at home mom (or dad).

I have been working from home online for many years. I could achieve to refer 22,000 people to one of the legitimate work at home programs and teach them everything that I knew but only few of them could make money. Not that it was hard to do. It was not hard because I could do it and a lot of other people could do it before me. Just because they were not serious and organized. They had not made a serious decision. This is the most important step. If you decide seriously and then take action and don't give up, you will be able to become a successful stay at home mom who not only enjoys being with her family and children - and of course her children enjoy her presence at home - but can make reasonable amount of money.

3- Improve some of your computer skills. You don't have to be a rocket scientists to work at home but you need to know the basics of computer and internet. When you want to work online and through the internet, you will be dealing with these terms very frequently:

- website
- weblog
- web directory
- email
- link
- search engine
- search engine optimization
- electronic newsletter or ezine
- autoresponder
- forums or discussion boards
- internet marketing
- advertising
- email advertising
- banner and banner advertising
- pay per click advertising and pay per click search engines (PPC)
- joint venture
- link exchange
- domain registration
- web hosting
- auction websites; e.g. eBay

Do not scare if you have not heard about some of the above terms. They are very easy. Soon you will know that working from home and through the internet is much easier than what you thought.

Just open one of the main search engines like Google and enter any of the above terms that you are not familiar with. You don't have to learn in detail. Just the basics is enough for getting started.

4- After improving your knowledge, decide what you want to do to make money. There are zillions of ways to make money from home by using your computer. You will have main options:

- Sell your own products or services
- Sell others' products or services

Don't think that you have to have a factory for having a product which can be sold through the internet. Your product can be very simple things from candle, wooden cross and ... to your articles, cookie recipes and e-books.

It is also as easy as 1, 2, 3 to promote others products and earn commissions. There are thousands of affiliate programs that you can join and become able to promote thousands of different products. Some affiliate programs pay as much as 75% commission to the affiliates.

Good Luck!

How To Give Yourself A Checkup Now

Is your work fulfilling and full of meaning? This is a question no one can answer but you.

There are, however, several things you can look at to see if your work needs a major overhaul now!

The checklist of work happiness

Health

How is your energy each day? Do you wake up fully alert and ready to work? Do you jump out of bed at the thought of starting work?

Does your mind race during the night because you cant wait to get up in the morning? Before going to bed, do you get excited just thinking of the work that you get to do the next day?

Or, when you think of your work, does it leave you with an empty feeling in the pit of your stomach? Do your thoughts instead turn to the bills piling up, the terrible boss or the long commute you have to do the next morning? When the alarm sounds, is your first thought Oh no, it cant be morning yet! Are you tired during the day? Does your energy level drop as the day wears on?

Emotions

Are you happy and content most of the day? Do you feel balanced and on-track with what you do? Do you feel like the work you do fits you and is just perfect?

Or are your emotions a daily roller coaster full of anxiety, envy, jealously, sadness and anger? Could this be because you dont love what you do? Could it be because your work might fit those silly job descriptions but your work no longer fits you? Do you hang onto your job like an outdated shirt because you just cant force yourself to do something else?

Relationships

How are you feeling about your loved ones? Are you supportive and always ready to listen to them in a calm and supportive way?

Or are you finding it harder to appreciate those around you because all you can think about is your work? Are you spending all your time thinking about how you cant stand your work? Are the people you care deeply about in your life being impacted by your moods and unhappiness in your work life? Are you being encouraged to stay in this job to support the family despite the way this job is draining you? Do you feel trapped in a boxwith no key for getting out?

Finances

Are you prevented from following your passion and finding work that better fits you because of money?

Are you afraid that if you quit your empty job, youll go homeless or rock the boat at home? Have you considered how you might get creative and follow your heart AND make the money you require?

Could you live on less in the short term to follow your dream?

Could your family live on less in the short term for you to follow your dream?

What would the tradeoffs be in the short term; the long term?

Does your own parental voice tell you it is not the responsible thing to do?

Are you unable to give yourself permission to follow your heart?

Work

Is yours just a job with those empty days and wasted staff meetings? Does it seem like its always all about the money? Does your employer have a What did you do for me lately attitude toward you and your work? Does it seem like you dont have control of your work and what you do? Do you feel trapped?

Do you realize that you must do something now before you become a statistic?

You must do something now if you are suffering like this

Being over 40 and empty in your work is a sure recipe for illness, unhappiness, failed relationships, needless spending and worst of all, a downward spiral towards a life that feels empty.

The good news

You can change! Many others like you have and you can, too.

It starts with an examination of your life and your work, because what you do determines who you are. Dont just settle any longer for a job created by someone else to do work that no longer fits you. You have a gift to give the world and its time you start to pursue it.

It will be hard; it will be challenging, and it will be worth it.

Create a supportive team around you now to protect and encourage you in the next step of your journey. This new journey will improve your health, your emotional state, your relationships, your relationship with money and most importantly, your work.

Over 40, your work becomes your life because what you do is who you are.

Its all up to you. You can choose what you become.

The 1-2-3 Search For Your New Babys Name

The Think Tank

Get the views of your spouse/partner, your family, your spouses family, and all your friends. Write down all the names suggested. This is diplomatic because, even if you have no intention of naming your child after your fathers uncle Mangelwurzel, theyll all think you are considering their wishes or suggestions.

Both parents need to set aside time with no interruptions, at a time when you are both relaxed and with clear minds, to consider the names that appeal to you and write them on a piece of paper. You will also want to discuss and eliminate all the unattractive names suggested by well meaning relatives and friends. Even if you think you know the gender of your baby (scans can be wrong), you should select a name for both boy and girl, even a unisex name.

You may want to honor a favorite aunt, grandparent or close friend.
You may want to choose a name with a religious meaning.
Or perhaps you have heard a name before and thought to yourself thats a nice name.
Or you may want the name to have a specific meaning, for example strong, or precious. If this is your idea, then buy a book of name meanings, or do an internet search, or even look it up in a book at your local library.

Next, you should study the most popular baby names lists for the last few years. These will give you a good list of names that are being used. For a growing child, conformity can be a comfort, and while Mangelwurzel may appeal strongly to you, your son has to go through kindy and many years of school with a host of Johns, Billys, Rogers, Dereks, Peters and Toms. You will do your son a disservice if you make him an object of ridicule by saddling him with an outrageous name.

Another reason for checking the list of popular names is that many names that you thought were unique are actually very popular. We named our youngest daughter Emily because we liked the name, it is very feminine, but also because it is an old fashioned name that we thought had gone out of style. We were surprised to find another seven Emilys within our local community. The same applied to our first daughters name. We named her Yvette (after an old girl-friend) then discovered my boss had a daughter almost the same age, also named Yvette. Since then we have met dozens of other girls and women with the same name. But we still like both names because they were chosen because we liked them then, and they are durable names.

But, if you really want an unusual baby name, you can surf the internet for sites with free or paid baby name wizards, usually you answer a few questions and the wizard suggests possible baby names, for more ideas. Or you can combine two names that you like into one, e.g. Mary and Anne can become Maryanne, Ann and Elizabeth can become Anneliza, Julie and Marie can become Juliemarie.

Bear in mind that children can be both cruel and vulnerable to ridicule. My first name is Leslie, which my mother liked very much. She planned to have a girl whom she intended to name Lesley, but got the second prize, me. So I was named Leslie with the boys spelling of the name. But this same spelling is also commonly used for a girl, so I went through school being laughed at because I had a girls name. It gave me an inferiority complex that took years for me to shake off. To this day I go by the name of Les because of that early experience. Another, famous, person was given the name Marion, definitely a girls name. I can imagine the discomfort and ridicule he suffered as a child. When he went into movies, the studio immediately changed his name to John Wayne.

Remember too, that cute sounding baby name may not seem so cute when your baby is a strapping 6ft 6in, 25 year old professional footballer. So please, be empathetic of your childs feelings when you give him, or her, the name that will last a lifetime.

The Elimination Round

By now, I expect you have a good-sized list of potential baby names. Put it aside for a few days to allow your subconscious mind to sift through them and ponder them all.

After a few days, return to your list and strike through every name you really do not want your child to bear. Its surprising, but several names that appealed to you a few days ago, now sound outrageous or unsuitable (I was going to name my first son Royce until I realized hed get the nickname Rolls.)

Now, on a fresh sheet of paper, write down the top 20 or 25 choices for a first name. In another column to the right, write down your top 20 or 25 choices for a second name (some of these may actually be in the list of first choices). Now, if you are English and would like your child to have a third name, do the same again in a third column.

Next, eliminate names in which the last letter of either the first or middle name ends with the first letter of the last name. Why, because it makes pronunciation difficult because there is no clear distinction where the last name begins and the first name ends, running the two names together. Examples: Tom Mix, Melvin Nelson, and Pat Thomas. Also eliminate names whose initials spell undesired acronyms; e.g. Robert Arnold Thomas = RAT; Samantha Iris Nelson = SIN; Michael Andrew Dobson = MAD. As mentioned before, kids can be cruel and you surely dont want to make it easy for other children to poke fun at your child in school. Lastly, do some research to find out the meanings of your remaining names. You may want to eliminate names with undesired meanings, for example nave, while you may discover others that are definitely keepers, for example brave. You can research the meanings of names on the internet or borrow a book from your local library.

D Day. (Decision Day)

At this point, again put your list away in a drawer for a few days. Deciding on your new babys name is not an easy task. It takes serious thought and some meditation. Its a gift for a lifetime for your child and he, or she, has no input. After a few days break, reassess your list. Youll probably be able to eliminate a few more.

Other considerations! Do you have a long surname, such as Featherstone? Then keep your childs first name short. Jill Featherstone rolls a lot easier off the tongue than Samantha Featherstone; Ann Wilkinshaw than Elizabeth Wilkinshaw; or Jim Dobrzynskiiy than Jaroslav Dobrzynskiiy.

Then theres alliteration! Whats that? Its the repetition of initial consonants in neighboring or following words. In names, this means first and other names have the same consonant sound as the first letter. Here are a few examples: William Wordsworth, Candy Campbell (Cynthia doesnt work because the C is sibilant, like S), Bill Baxter, Sam Simpson. Walt Disney knew what he was doing when he named Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. On the other hand, Cindy Solomon will work because the C is sibilant like the S, as will Jim George and Roger Wright.

Will you name your son Andrew, because you want to call him Andy? Why not name him Andy; or Drew if you like Drew? Why name your son William, if you want to call him Bill? Edward for Ted? Or your daughter Samantha, if you want to call her Sam; Rebecca, if you really like Becky?

Finally, you need to decide on the spelling. Casey, Kasey, Kaysey, Kaisee, or Caisee? Its your choice and the way you can individualize an otherwise common name. Peter is good for a boy, Peta is good for a girl. But Petr is also OK for a boy, and Peetah is nice and unusual for a girl. Then of course, there are the national variants, such as Pedro, Pietro, Pierre and so on.

Just remember though, if you use an uncommon spelling, your child may have to go through life (as I have) constantly correcting the spelling of his or her name.

And in closing this article, I want to remind you this one thing; the most important thing is that YOUR CHILD will be happy with whatever name you choose. It is she or he that has to bear the wisdom or the folly of your choice of name.

Here's Why Affiliate Marketing is so Lucrative

There are people who think of the world as a dreary place simply because they do not find their existence charming enough to render them contented. There are those who wish that they have more than what they possess. There are those who are sick and tired of working hard yet end up having nothing better. There are those who curse the humdrum existence of having 95 jobs that do not give them personal and professional growth. Still these are others who want to earn money without sweating it out too much.

These are the ultimate reasons why more and more people are succumbing to affiliate marketing, one of the many money-making systems that are conceived as a result of the popularity the internet has been generating since it came into being. Since the internet is one of the media with which to view the world and interact with people without getting up from ones seat, it has become one of the most important channels with which to sell a merchants products and wares.

This is the reason why affiliate marketing thrives as a result of the internets popularity. The products and wares which the internet markets get the necessary exposure needed to sell well. This is where the fact that affiliate marketing is a lucrative business comes in. What is intended to be sold is sold because the internet is the best place to sell all these merchandise without the merchant giving too much of an effort to sell them per se.

How does affiliate marketing generate money? The way affiliate marketing works is so simple one would have difficulty believing how such a scheme is able to generate cash. In affiliate marketing, one is introduced to a system where an affiliate, the one who owns the website, agrees to display and advertise other websites that belong, in turn, to a merchant.

The merchant is the one who hopes to generate sales through the affiliates promotion of his website. Once these links are clicked on by other people and a purchase is made, the merchant pays the affiliate a commission. It is by simply promoting other websites through his own that an affiliate is able to earn money for himself in the easiest manner possible.

The principle involved in affiliate marketing can be compared to the type of species interaction in ecology called mutualism where interaction between two species allows both of them to derive benefit from the situation without harming each other. The result is a relationship that allows them to coexist in harmony in the community where they both move. Affiliate marketing allows affiliates to get paid in recognition of what they were able to contribute to the process. Merchants, in turn, are able to have their products advertised and ultimately sold through the efforts provided by the affiliate.

The reason why products advertised by affiliates through their websites generate a lot of sales is because the number of people using the internet is growing every minute. Each and every merchandise advertised through this medium gets all the attention that it could possibly need to be able to convince someone that it is worth the try. This is the ultimate reason why there is money in affiliate marketing. The more links a website promotes, the more chance sales will be generated. The more sales generated, the happier the merchant, and the happier the merchant, the better it is for the affiliate both professionally and financially.

Those who have indulged in affiliate marketing have reached goals and dreams which they were not able to realize under ordinary circumstances. There are even those who have skyrocketed to the top simply because they have dedicated all their time and effort to perfecting their knowledge about this business without even a bit of hesitation. One can be sure of the fact that there is money in affiliate marketing. He only has to cope with the fact that it is impossible to generate riches in this business overnight.

Well, not really. All he has to do is to learn everything that he possibly could about the industry which he is in. If he is able to master everything concerning the tricks of the trade, then everything will follow suit.

What Kind of Home-Based Business Can I Start that is Legitimate?

Copyright 2006 Michael Mould

I have never been much of a fan of high-pressure sales; either as a salesman or as a consumer. In fact, if a salesman starts in on me trying to promote his product/service or tries to push me into selling his/her product/service, I immediately start to look elsewhere. I also don't like advertising that tries to instill a sense of urgency on my part to buy now with an exclusive offer that expires tomorrow. In all such cases I am reminded of a saying I once heard, "The deal of a lifetime comes along once a week." While the person that told me this was referring to a home purchase, I have found it to be quite applicable to many other offers in life.

It is with this perspective on home-based business "opportunities" that I set out to find one that I could do part-time to supplement my income, but one that could be scaled up if I chose to pursue it full-time. I found all the pill pushing, lotion promotion, potion sales, gadget gizmos, copy writing cons, affiliate networking, and other scams that I am sure you found too. Ultimately, I settled for online bookselling because it did not require me to buy an inventory from a con man or to sell my books through questionable channels. It also provides every customer with a product - presuming they are literate - that matches their expectations, and whether they enjoy the book or not, I don't have to worry about whether or not they lose weight reading it. I can sell through reputable online marketplaces like Amazon.com, Alibris.com, Half.com, and Abebooks.com, all of which are well known. I also found that it was a very inexpensive business to start and how I choose to expand it is up to me.

The business essentially works like this:

1) Buy used books (new too if you have good sources).

2) Grade the books, e.g., Good, VG, Like New, etc.

3) Determine the online value of the books.

4) List the books with an online marketplace.

5) Pack and ship the books when they sell.

The key to being successful is to know the value of the books you are considering for your inventory BEFORE you buy them. The process of finding good books is called book scouting. It involves the use of a cell phone or PDA to look up the book values using a scouting service, and determining if buying them will be profitable. The last thing you want to do is go out and buy a bunch of books, lug them home, and find out they only have a firewood value. Book scouting does not require any expensive tools to do either, just an Internet enabled cell phone or PDA and a service that allows you to enter an ISBN (or title/author for pre ISBN books) and this will cost about $10 per month for a good service. Don't get too wrapped up in the $10 per month cost, the service can easily pay for itself ten fold in a single one-hour scouting adventure. Yesterday, I picked up a book that another dealer had passed over because the scouting service they were using was not a very good one. I paid $1.99 for the book and it currently sells on Amazon.com for $194.42. Just selling this one book can pay for my marketplace listing fees and my scouting service for over three months, and it wasn't the only good book I found.

Once you have an inventory of 200 - 500 books, you can start a marketplace account and efficiently sell online. This requires that you enter your books into a database or spreadsheet and upload them to one of the marketplaces. Not too difficult, but it does require that you learn to price and grade your books, and there are acceptable standards for grading as well as some marketplace rules regarding the conditions that can be listed.

So, now you can start to recover the small investment that you have made by receiving orders from the marketplace with shipping instructions. You package your books and ship them to your customers. Payment to you is for the most part automated. Some marketplaces have direct deposit features, and some will mail you a check each week/two-weeks/monthly, depending on the marketplace.

This is no time to relax, you need to keep scouting for more inventory to replenish the books you sell and to grow your inventory to a level that provides the income you are looking to make.

There are many other nuances of the business that are easy to learn without having to do everything by trial and error, but you need to enjoy books, being around people that enjoy books, and spending time in places where they sell books if you want to enjoy this business.

The best part about the idea is that you dont have to take my word for it, you already know about the online marketplaces that books are sold through, and you know they are legitimate. You can become a successful online bookseller, selling your books through these marketplaces as a third-party seller too.

Summer Fun with Your Preschooler

The temperature outside keeps rising, snowy days have been replaced by constant rain and gloom and your hair has had about all the humidity it can take. Now add a curious and active preschooler to the mix and you have a summer dilemma. How can you stay cool and happy and keep your child entertained and active during the summer months? Fortunately, there are many activities that you and your preschooler can take advantage of during the summer months that are guaranteed to be fun, educational and engaging all at the same time.

Indoor activities are exceptionally popular during the summer months and as a result, businesses and local entities promote various programs and special events during the summer months. Take your child to the bounce zone at an indoor family entertainment center, purchase a childrens summer movie pass from your local movie theater, attend story time at libraries, malls or childrens shops and purchase tickets to theater events such as sing-a-longs or puppet shows. If you belong to a moms group or play group, organize a local fire house tour or visit a planetarium. You can also beat the heat by heading to a childrens museum or science museum with interactive hands-on displays that are designed for young children. If you work or want your child to prepare for the transition to preschool in the fall, enroll your child at a summer camp at his or her school.

Outdoor activities are also popular during the summer. Consider enrolling in a swim class with your child. Most programs require parental participation until the child reaches age three. If you prefer to watch your children splash and cool off, locate public water fountains at shopping centers or parks. Be sure to check that the fountains have been approved by local health officials for sanitary and safety concerns. Some alternatives to water fun include a visit to the zoo, aquarium or farmers market. Even better, tour a dairy farm and enjoy a fresh ice cream treat with your child,

VW Performance Parts - Suspension / Handling Upgrades

There are a lot of aftermarket parts you can install on your VW in your own garage that will improve handling performance. You should do plenty of research before deciding which parts to put on your car. There are many forums online full of VW tuners that can give you a great idea of what parts you should or shouldn't install on your car. Chances are if a part exists someone has installed it and written about it on one of these forums.

Here are a few handling upgrades you can do that will make your car more fun to drive.

1) Sway Bars. If you take a corner at high speed and it feels like your car is falling over sideways you might look into upgrading your sway bars. An anti-roll kit helps keep your car flat during cornering. Aftermarket bars are usually thicker and/or stiffer than the stock bars, which is how they can perform better than the stock sways. Be warned however that this puts more stress on your tires grip on the road, so if you install sway bars on a VW with bald tires you could be asking for trouble. These can be installed yourself without a huge amount of trouble if you have the right tools and a place to do it. It will probably take several hours. Installing these bars will not impact the ride quality of your vehicle, which is great for those who like to take corners a bit crazy once in a while but not have the car feel stiff and bumpy all the time. A good set of sway bars (front and rear) will run you a few hundred dollars or so.

2) Lowering Springs. Aftermarket springs lower your car anywhere from .5 to 2 inches. This has the effect of lowering your car's center of gravity, which improves handling. These new springs also have different spring rates and will usually give you a much stiffer ride than the stock springs. While springs are generally really cheap ($100-300), installing them is not easy. You must have a spring compressor tool and know how to use it. These springs are under tremendous pressure with an entire car sitting on them, and if one should come loose while using the spring compressor it could easily kill you. Even with the knowledge of how this installation is done it can still take a long time. Unfortunately this also means that having them installed at a shop is usually going to cost you more than the springs cost. I've seen quotes of $150 all the way up to $600 to install a set of springs. Be aware that lowering your car too much can have other implications and you should do research on "camber" prior to choosing a set of springs.

3) Shocks. Replacing the stock springs but leaving the old shocks on there is going to cost you in the long run. Lowering springs put more stress on the shocks since they are more compressed under normal use. This will cause them to wear out faster. Depending on how many miles are on your current shocks it is probably a good idea to replace them at the same time as the springs. This is especially true if you're paying someone else to install them. It will probably cost almost the same amount to install shocks and springs as it will to install just the springs. You don't want to pay someone that labor fee again in a few months when your shocks need replacing. Once you've 'sprung' for new shocks and springs, you may want to consider looking into coilovers since the cost will be very close to the same.

4) Coilovers. Coilovers are a shock and spring combination that has the added flexibility of being adjustable. You can adjust the ride height of your vehicle. This is great if you take your VW to the track. You can lower it for racing and raise it back up for daily driving. The more expensive coilovers also feature the ability to adjust the ride stiffness. This also comes in handy if you race your car. You most likely won't want it set to maximum stiffness for daily driving. A set of coilovers can run between $500-1500.

5) Strut Tower Bar. You've probably seen these bars for sale. They're usually made of colored aluminum and go across the front struts near the rear of the engine. It is generally accepted that these don't do much for you in terms of performance, but they do make the engine compartment look nicer. If you decide to pick one up make sure you get the billet aluminum oil cap that matches.

6) Tires. Probably the most overlooked performance enhancement you can do for your car is to replace the tires. Adding lots of engine power won't do you any good if you can't get that power to the pavement. Replacing your tires with a wider tire or tires with a stickier compound will help you get more traction. Choosing tires is usually a compromise between Performance, Ride Comfort, and Tread Life. High performance tires don't last as long as regular ones. High performance tires can cost quite a bit of money too.

I hope this helped give you some ideas about the upgrades you can do on your Volkswagen. Just remember that making your suspension perform better will sacrifice passenger comfort. You may have more fun driving, but nobody will want to ride with you if your suspension is too stiff!

A Review Of A Newly Introduced Advertising Method: Expired Domain Traffic

Everybody knows the great advantages of e-commerce for online sellers and buyers. With the Internet, anybody can sell a product or show an idea to millions of potential buyers, with very low costs, no rent to pay, and without spending the whole day sit in a store. Now, this could convince thousands of Internet newbies to start their own website and work from home, anyway, a common problem they face when starting a new website or online project is to drive visitors to it. Ironically, the same thing that made the Internet a winning solution for e-commerce, also made it the hardest place where to be found.

There are several techniques to drive visitors to a website. Some of them are very time consuming, some are very expensive, some are completely ineffective. In this article, I'd like to describe a new, interesting advertising method, introduced recently, aimed to bring thousands of targeted visitors to any website. The idea behind this is very smart, and it's based on expired domains redirection. In fact, thousands of domain names expire every day and are available for registration. Most of them have a residual traffic coming from the "old life" of these names: in most cases, their previous owners built websites for these domains, listed them in search engines, and even exchanged links with other sites. All translating into traffic for that domain name.

The smart idea is to register these names, categorize them and redirect them to another website that match their category. Till today, people used to do this by themselves. This is effective, but extremely complicated, time consuming and expensive. Now, a company called Revisitors brought this process to the general public, registering thousands of domains and redirecting them to their customers' websites. Thanks to the large-scale transposition of this technique, webmasters and website owners can now take advantage of redirected visitors to drive targeted traffic to their website.

I tested this traffic for you by redirecting visitors to our website. The order procedure was very easy, and the campaign started almost immediately. I've been asked how many visitors I wanted to redirect, the category and the URL. After a couple of hours, I received my login information to track the campaign, and I monitored it closely. It usually take up tp 30 days to complete an expired traffic campaign, but mine took a bit more (they had a lot of campaigns running for the category I selected, and for this reason they was short on traffic). No problem, I always prefer the companies that apologize when short on supply, instead of just sending fake visitors and completing their campaigns on time.

Now, let's talk about the results: on the overall, I've been satisfied with the results. I bought 10000 visitors from the USA to our website, a site filled with articles about computer security and Google Adsense ads. I paid $48, so it's $0.0048 per visitor. Based on the website stats, about 10.420 USA visitors have been delivered in 41 days. I had a good response rate, with 71 subscribers to my newsletter and over 180 clicks on the Adsense ads.

In my honest opinion, this is an affordable way to gain instant traffic to your website. Of course, you cannot expect the same results of a pay-per-click campaign (i.e. Google Adwords), but it's definitely cheaper (pay-per-click campaigns cost $0.50 average per visitor), and worth the money. So, my recommendation is to give this new advertising technique a try, and see how it works with your website. If you get good results, you have found a new, and much cheaper, way to drive potential buyers to your website.

You Gotta Have Passion

Do you dread going to wok on Monday morning? Are you one of those people who can't wait until Friday rolls around?

If you are, that's a good indication you hate your job and that you lack passion.

Being passionate about your job means not watching the clock. It means going the extra mile. It means being so engrossed in your work, you lose all track of time. It means being committed and professional at all times.

When you are passionate about what you do for a living you not only enjoy your job more, but you also get greater pleasure out of life. The two go hand in hand.

Would you like to be more passionate about your job? Here's the key:

Do more. Instead of being passive and going with the flow, be proactive. Do the little things at work that no one else is willing to do. Believe me. People will start to take notice - especailly those in position of power.

Get more involved in those boring business meetings. Who says business meetings have to be boring? Why not spice things up with a joke of the day, or something else of a lighthearted variety. If you change your attitude and become more passionate, it will rub off and have a positive effect on others.

And you'll feel better about yourself, knowing that you are helping others feel better about themselves and their job. You will actually be an inspiration to people.

More importantly, when you develop passion, you'll get more done. You won't have to hide out in the bathroom, doing as little as possible, until it's time to go home. You won't have to waste time scheming about how to get out of an unpleasant assignment, because with your new attitude, there will be no such thing as an unpleasant assignment. Also, you won't be at work daydreaming about your upcoming vacation that's 6 months away.

When you are are passionate about work you'll do a much better job. Why? Because your passion for your job won't let you settle for anything less than your best effort.

When you are passionate about your job, you'll put in your time and request even more hours. With your new-found passion you won't be cheating your employer or co-workers. More importantly, you won't be cheating yourself. Your boss will love you and you'll start to get the great assignments (and more money!).

Need proof? Think about something you're really passionate about. Maybe it's a favorite hobby or sport. Maybe it just hanging out with your friends. Whatever it is, take careful note of that feeling you're starting to get inside, just thinking about it. Now imagine how good you would feel if you could take that same passion and apply it to your work day - everyday.

In closing, try being more passionate and see if it doesn't make a profound difference in your life. Go ahead and try it. I guarantee you'll like it!

Business/Product Publicity: Market To The Media First

When starting a successful business venture or launching a new product, most entrepreneurs or business owners conduct some type of marketing research to determine the extent of their prospective customer base. And when getting the word out to that customer base, many entrepreneurs may turn to the media to help generate a buzz for them. However, as detailed as their marketing research might have been, very few business owners are as meticulous at determining their proper "media market" that is, all those media outlets whose editorial profiles are a match to a product/business profile and would be appropriate for generating media exposure and publicity.

One of my favorite things to do is educate my clients about their "media market." Consider this, in North America there are more than 75,000 media outlets and almost one million reporters, editors & producers in the entire media market. However, only a small percentage of those may be appropriate and applicable to your business/product. But which ones? Unfortunately, too many well-intentioned entrepreneurs are either uninformed or misinformed regarding what it takes to attract media attention for their business. I recently surveyed 100 business owners and entrepreneurs who contacted my business about a publicity/media exposure campaign. Here's what I found:

11% - "Are Admittedly Media Market Clueless"
19% - "Have Unrealistic Media Market Perceptions"
29% - "Think Local & Large Media Are The ONLY Media"
41% - "Have A Good Grasp On Their Potential Media Market And Its Benefits"

Here are the descriptions of these categories and the lessons I try to teach those who fall into each category:

11% - "Are Admittedly Media Market Clueless" These are the business owners who know their product and market inside and out, BUT they have never thought about launching a publicity/media exposure campaign before now. They know very little about their potential media market or how to generate publicity therein.

The Lesson: For these types of business owners I recommend asking for help from a smaller PR agency or publicity specialist who is willing to "hand hold" to get the client educated. Research to find one who doesn't mind spending the time to educate you about what should be included in your specific media market and the pitch. Make sure the agency or publicist understands the product/business as well as you do and can in turn educate you about your media market one that will be able to benefit your business for years to come.

--

19% - "Have Unrealistic Media Perceptions" These are the business owners who are CONVINCED that EVERY newspaper, consumer interest magazine and TV show will run a feature on their new products when they launch a publicity campaign.

The Lesson: No product or business, no matter how big or great can be assured media coverage in every outlet in a media market. But you can get coverage in a good number of them given the right media tending. Every media pitch will be weighed against the media outlet's editorial lead-time, its available editorial space, and availability of an editorial staff member to cover your pitch. It is totally up to the discretion of each media outlet as to whether your pitch makes it to the pages or on air. It can be an uphill battle if you target the wrong media with the wrong message. But you can greatly increase the chances generating those media placements with a little expertise and media market know-how.

--

29% - "Think Local & Large Media Are The ONLY Media" These are the ones who think of their media market in two simple terms: LOCAL & LARGE LOCAL, as you might imagine, means the media outlets in their city or surrounding geographic region -- the local newspaper, a regional business magazine or two, a few shows at local radio/TV stations. LARGE, on the other hand, are media outlets like The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Good Morning America, Oprah or your other favorite large circulation, trade specific media outlet.

The Lesson: The reality is local and large are indeed part of your media market, but not the only ones. The best media market opportunities may well be the dozens of other smaller scale papers, magazines, newsletters or TV/radio/cable shows that may generate more customer interest and sales than a placement in the big media might. Because of a lack of media market knowledge, many business owners don't even know these smaller, more targeted media outlets exist. This is where a PR agency or publicity specialist can be integral in your publicity campaign. They know the media market very well and will be able to find those media members who will be the best for generating editorial features on your business or product. They also have great media contacts that can turn one feature into a syndicated story that runs in multiple media outlets nationwide.

--

41% - "Have A Good Grasp On Their Potential Media Market And Its Benefits" These are media-savvy entrepreneurs and business owners who are realistic and knowledgeable about how the media can benefit their business. They know that they have to narrowcast their media pitch to a select segment of the media in order to get coverage that will increase exposure for the business.

The Lesson: Don't let a PR agency or publicity specialist tell you they will send your pitch to 20,000, 30,000 or 50,000 media outlets. The reality is, of the 8,000 daily & weekly newspapers, 11,000 magazines & newsletters, 15,000 radio/TV/cable stations and 7,000 Internet news sites in North America, only about 25% of those accept press releases from outside their geographic area. They cover only LOCAL issues, businesses and products, and it is a waste of time to target them. The key is researching to discover which media outlets will be receptive to your pitch and knowing how to parlay those media contacts into positive consumer interest features that will educate and entice customers about your product or business.

Just like marketing to find the right customers, one should be equally diligent about finding and pitching the right media market. Bottom line whether you have a general interest product that has widespread consumer appeal or a trade specific business with a very narrow customer base, knowing your appropriate media market can mean the difference between product/business publicity or product/business obscurity.
